Drive Users To Your Home Page Making Logo a Link

Lost users are not a good thing. Sometimes, specially in huge websites, users get lost easily. The company logo (also called “Site ID”) is usually used to drive users back to the home page, as they click on it.

The problem is that often users don’t know that they can click on the Site ID. That is why some sites put the words “Home Page” near the company logo to make it clear to users that they can click on it.

I have noticed that many sites have been using a new approach to do the same. The words “Home Page” appear only when you hover over the company’s logo, persuading users to click on it. Again, I have to use Amazon as a good design example, they convert the logo into a button as you hover over it.

YouTube is also doing almost the same. For their interface design they choose an elegant solution displaying just the tag “Home”. Bravo YouTube and Amazon!

Design vs Art Weekend: Haus Der Kunst

Design and art are two different things. Art websites are usually crazy and usually do not respect design principles, but that’s what the users are usually expecting from these kind of sites: nonsense interface and the lack of previous usability tests lead visitors to a game. This blog is more about design than art, so please visit the Haus der Kunst site and build your own opinion.

A good menu and proper wording make this site not-that-crazy and, at the end, user friendly. A simple design and an interface that attract visitors.

Haus der Kunst is one of the leading museums in Munich, Germany.
