Amazon Redesigns Home Page

Trying to find a book I happened to [once again] ended up at Amazon’s site. I was very happy when I saw the new design (as the previous one was far from being nice.)

Most of the people look for books, music and electronics through the search function, so Amazon.com finished making the search box bigger and locating it right at the top of the home page, gaining an important real estate.

The traditional top menu has been moved to the upper left of the home page, wining a second place importance, favoring of the search box. Amazon is now organizing individual departments in groups making the browse a little bit more obvious.

The menu is easy to browse and it opens itself as you hover over the arrow. In my opinion, and I am being picky, there is only one thing that could have been better. As you get to the top-down category of the menu, you have to click exactly on the word and not on the line. On the example, nothing happens if you don’t click exactly on the “Beauty” word.

Amazon also added a very cool Gift & Wish Lists search box, to make easier to find wish lists.

It seems that this new home page design is still on testing and is not available in Amazons international sites. Here comes my next negative critic: I usually buy at Amazon.de and have to confess that I love it, but our home page design looks really old and “lower-category”, sad…

Still, I hope the new design of my favorite online retailer spreads soon around the international sites!
